Emily Valentín Méndez
I am currently pursuing my BS in Interdisciplinary Studies in Natural Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. In 2016, I began researching in Dr. Paquale Fulvio’s lab where our project consists in creating chitosan nanoparticles for tumor-directed drug delivery. Subsequently, I was accepted in the Puerto Rico Louis Stakes Alliance for Minority Participants (PR-LSAMP) Program. Thanks to this program, I received the opportunity to join Dr. Edward Moreira Bahnson’s research group during summer 2017. My project will be focused in cell mediated delivery of PLGA-based nanoparticles loaded with cinnamic aldehyde, a Nrf2 activator, to assess their ability to inhibit proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells in vitro. I am excited to work with this research group at UNC-Chapel Hill.
